At
the age of 6, Jonathan R. Distel was walking with his father
around a property that was to be one of the largest estates
their family was ever hired to build. He came upon an axe
head half-buried in mud. Stamped into the side were the words,
“Handmade in 1914.” They took it back to the workshop
where Jon’s father showed him how to sand and sharpen
the axe as well as give it a new handle. Years later, in a
New Hope, Pennsylvania antique shop, Jon discovered a 17th
century axe head and bought it for only $15. It now hangs
next to the one he found in the mud all those years ago.
